The most significant challenge was adapting the presentations and materials so that they were accessible for those with learning disabilities who were part of the Sunnybank group. Ngozi was both flexible and attentive to the needs of the group, often providing more time than was scheduled for the preparation of the sessions to ensure the language and concepts were clear, simple and accessible. The preparation was key and greatly helped the sessions as well as the support before and after the sessions to those who wanted to discuss and think further. She was receptive to the group discussions and managed to navigate the group through the complexities of EDI. Thanks to Ngozi, the group remained focussed and kept within the time boundaries. The group felt comfortable and supported to express their own opinions within the group as well as raise questions as they emerged. Ngozi provided warmth and a non-judgemental environment for the group which was greatly valued. Ngozi was very receptive to the simplification of language and the challenges to ensure the materials were accessible - this made a huge difference.

 

 

Sunnybank has greatly benefitted from the work around EDI with Ngozi.  Whilst the topic is huge and multi-facetted, Ngozi was able to keep the group on track and achieved an action plan that is appropriate for the charity to take forward.  Each of the group have fed back that they have learnt a lot and were very impressed by the Ngozi's facilitation and ability to listen and respond to the group.
